Sterling Hayden (1916-1986) Captain U.S. Marine Corps 1942-45 WW II. He as a private under the name “John Hamilton”. Recommended for Officer Candidate School, he was commissioned and sent to William Donovan’s COI remaining with it after it became the OSS, forerunner to the CIA. He parachuted behind enemy lines to work with Yugoslav partisans, and earned the Silver Star, Bronze Arrowhead, and a commendation from Marshal Tito. He was an actor, author, sailor, model, Marine, and OSS secret agent.
