Lewis “Lew” Wallace (1827 1905) was a lawyer, Union general in the Civil War, territorial governor, statesman, politician and author born in Brookville, Indiana. He wrote Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ, which has been called “the most influential Christian book of the nineteenth century.”
