General Weyler was known as “Butcher Weyler” for the way he treated Cuban civilians. By 1897, Weyler had  moved 300,000 Cubans into concentration camps. One could not believe that a man could hold so much power. Because Weyler killed so many by starving them to death and not helping them whatsoever, many other countries were enraged. Spain, after hearing many complaints from other countries, called General Weyler back to Spain.
