Tacoma Narrows Bridge disaster, November 7, 1940. Many times a picture is insufficient to do the job and this very short video shows the magnitude of the disaster. The Tacoma Narrows bridge was completed in July 1940 but on Nov 7, 40mph winds created a resonance pattern that caused the bridged to tear itself to pieces. A dog trapped in a car was the only fatality. The bridge cost millions to construct and only lasted a few months. A new bridge was not built til more than 10 years later.
