Comradeship In Vintage Photos


Gander, a Newfoundland, saved the lives of several wounded Canadian soldiers. During the Battle of Lye Mun, a live Japanese grenade landed next to his comrades. Gander picked it up with is mouth and rushed with it towards the enemy, killing them and dying in the ensuing explosion. He was posthumously awarded the Dickin Medal in 2000 for his deeds in WWII
