Monument of the Battle of the Nations in Leipzig, April 1945 – The monument commemorated the defeat of Napoleon in 1813 & was one of the last strongholds in Leipzig to surrender. 150 SS soldiers with ammunition, foodstuffs to last three months & a desire to protect their country until their last breath dug themselves in. Eventually the artillery bombardments of the US 1st Army persuaded the SS troops to surrender.
