The Sunken Road, Sharpsburg battlefield, Maryland. A death trap for Confederate troops when Federal forces took an overlooking ridge and were able to fire down. The North calls the battle Antietam, after the creek; the South calls it Sharpsburg after the town. The Sunken Road, I believe, is sometimes referred to as “Bloody Lane.”
