After the first B-17s had arrived in North Africa, combat quickly took its toll, a preview of things to come. Quickly stripped of useful items to keep others flying, this 97th Bomb Group hulk was put to good use as a training aid for ditching, an ever-present possibility regardless of theater of operation.
