MARJORIE LEE BROWNE (September 9, 1914 October 19, 1979) was a notable mathematics educator and has the distinction of being the third African American woman to earn a PhD in mathematics. She graduated with a B.S. degree in mathematics from Howard University in 1935, a M.S. and PhD in Mathematics from the University of Michigan in 1939 and 1950 respectively. She was a member of the faculty at North Carolina Central University in Durham, NC until 1979 when she retired.
