Contemporary Portrait of Kuei Young Man, descendants of the ancient people of Southern China, Thailand and Kampuchea (Cambodia). Ancient Chinese records document the presence of the Kuei people who fought with and against Chinese rulers. They were renown for their seafaring skills and trade. They are the “Kuei-lin” or “Kunlun” of the ancient texts; Kunlun (pronounced “Kwen-loon”) refers to dark-skinned people in ancient China. (photography by James Brunson)
