Ski patrol in Finland. These guys weren’t patrolling the slopes, though, they were preparing for battle. Finland, the Soviet Union, Norway, and even the US all had troops trained for ski battle. The Soviets learned it from the Finns when, during the Winter War of 1939, they were beaten by ski warfare. The Soviets used the method, most notably during the Battle of Moscow.
