History Of The German Army In Pictures

Major Gen. Walter #Wenck was the youngest general of the German Army during #WW2 — “the Boy General” as he was called. In the closing days of the Battle of Berlin he was given command of the 12th Army and ordered to relieve #Berlin. Since this was impossible, Wenck focused on extracting his troops and as many refugees as possible from Soviet reach; at least 300,000 soldiers and civilians were thus saved from the #Soviets. Ironically, the general was killed in a traffic accident in 1982.
