Photograph of Marshall A. Chaffee with a Panther tank behind his back. In 1943 a year after his graduation from high school Marshall left home to serve in the Army. He boarded the Queen Mary and headed to Glasgow Scotland in 1944 and from there he made his way to Wales and then shipped out to Utah Beach. He then fought in the Battle of the Bulge and held the Cologne Bridge over the Rhine River until the troops could cross into Germany. He was discharged on December 6 1946. Shortly after Marshall returned home from the war he started seeing Ruth. Photo and info from his son Michael A. Chaffee.
