The 1883 Rochester tornado prompted the creation of the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. William Mayo, his two sons (William & Charles) and the Sisters of St. Francis created it after realizing there were no hospitals nearby the town to help the injured tornado victims. Mayo Clinic is the first and largest integrated not-for-profit medical group practice in the world.
