Gen. Hap Arnold, commander of the U.S. Army Air Forces, examining the “Memphis Belle” after it returned to the US.Memphis Belle was one of the first B-17 USAAC heavy bombers to complete 25 combat missions with her crew intact by May 1943.The aircraft and crew then returned to the United States to sell war bonds. The aircraft is undergoing extensive restoration at the National Museum of the United States Air Force at Wright-Patterson AFB in Dayton, Ohio.
