At first, the Women’s Timber Corps (WTC) was separated from the Women’s Land Army in 1942. Billeted at farms or sometimes living in forest huts, they worked in all weathers, from snow to sunshine. They underwent training in everything from felling, snedding (stripping side shoots from felled branches), loading, working with the horses, driving tractors and also how to operate sawmills.
