Although they had been fighting the fascist regime since 1927, the Italian partisans remained virtually unknown to the outside world as they carried on their battle for freedom under some of the most hazardous conditions. Targets for both Nazis and Fascist Italian guns they used the eternally snow-clad peaks of the French-Italian border as their battlefield. This partisan was a school teacher in the Valley of Aosta and chose to pick up guns to fight side-by-side her husband. January 1945.
