A man stands on the shoveled sidewalk after a 1899 snowstorm hits Washington, D.C. It is possible that the photo was taken after the Great Blizzard of 1899. The storm (also called “The Snow King”) originated in Florida on February 12 and, as the storm moved north, the temperatures rapidly decrease while the snow greatly increased. In Washington D.C., snow fell for 51 hours straight and the city saw a record of 20.5 inches of snow.
