Louvre In Historical Pictures

80-cb

This is the Palais des Tuileries at Paris, viewed from inside the Louvre courtyard (Place du Carrousel) — before the pyramid. Picture is pre 1871. The other side of the Tuileries faced the Jardins des Tuileries and looked down the Champs-lyses. The Tuileries closed the bottom of the “A” that makes up the Louvre complex. State residence of Louis XIV (briefly), XV, XVI, Napoleon I, Louis XVIII, Charles X, Napoleon III. But we can’t see it. Destroyed by the Communard in 1871.
