Charles Joseph Coward was a British solider who, as a POW, broke into Auschwitz, saved many Jews from death, sabatoged the Germans during work details, smuggled intelligence about the conditions at the concetration and pow camps. He, along with other British officers, used their Red Cross packages to smuggle food the the inmates of Auschwitz. In 1963 he was named as one fo the “Rightous amoung Nations.” (Coward is pictured on the upper bunk.)
