SS-Oberaufseherin Maria Mandel, a 36 year old blonde, was born at Munzkirchen in Austria in January 1912 and joined the SS in 1938. From October 1938 to May 1939, she was Aufseherin at KZ Lichtenburg and from May 1939 to Oct 1942 she was in KZ Ravensbrck. She transferred as Oberaufseherin to KZ Auschwitz where she worked until Nov 30th, 1944. She was moved on to KZ Mhldorf til May 1945. Her arrest came on August 10th, 1945. The prisoners referred to her as “the beast”.
