Russia, Nov 1941: A corporal courier manages a smile for the propaganda photographer as temperatures plunge and, like the whole of the German army in “Russland” he has only his light long coat to fight bone-crushing cold. Note the leather dispatch bag and the sizable holster that, judging by the size, could be carrying a long-barreled Luger pistol, not the usual issue for this level of rank.
