Uprising leaders posing on Texel Island after relief by Canadian troops. The Dutch island was defended by Red Army soldiers from Georgia. After capture they were given the choice of serving Germany or facing abuse and starvation in a POW camp. They rose up on 4/6/45 & slaughtered 400 German soldiers in their sleep in anticipation of an Allied landing that failed to materialize & spent the next 6 weeks fighting and hiding from the 2,000 German riflemen deployed to the island to hunt them down.
