Diana’s parents on their wedding day, June 1, 1954 of which 9 members of the Royal family attended including the late Queen Mum and present Queen. Bride, 18 year old Frances Roche wore the Spencer tiara to marry 30 year old Viscount “Johnnie” Spencer, heir to the Althrop earldom. Frances was the youngest bride to be married at Westminster since the turn of the century and one of only a privileged few allowed to marry each year in the Abbey. In 1954, it was described as the wedding of the year.
