This is Arild Hamsun, son of Norway’s pre-eminent, world known writer and Nobel Prize winner Knut Hamsun. He was a volunteer of 5. Waffen SS Division “Viking”. He is pictured here after having been decorated with the Iron Cross, 2nd class for bravery under fire. The photo was taken in October 1943 in Russia.
