Empress Cixi – China (1881) began as a minor concubine of the Chinese emperor, but became Dowager Empress when she gave birth to a royal heir. She is rumored to have murdered her son so that she could continue ruling China after he came of age. She supported the Boxer rebellion in 1899-1900. Colorized
