THE WHITE ROSE’s LAST KING ~ Middleham Castle in Yorkshire was a place of safety and comfort for Richard, as a young child who later became the last King of the Yorkists. But he had to grow up faster than most children. By eight he’d been in hiding, held prisoner and forced to flee the country. Shortly after, his brother Edward took Henry VI’s crown, and Richard became Duke of Gloucester. By the age of 19, he was a knight and Lord of Middleham and beyond. Image:: the statue of Richard III
