On August 30, 1983, leading up to launch of the Challenger on mission STS-8, a powerful electrical storm lit up the skies around the Kennedy Space Center. This photo was captured as the rain and lightning danced around the Challenger and striking near the orbiter stack. Not long after, the storm died down and the Challenger preceded with its launch at 2:32 a.m. (it was the first shuttle night launch and night landing).
