Pearl Witherington was trained as a courier by the British Special Operations Executive and parachuted into occupied France in 1943. When her network leader was arrested, she took charge of a portion of his network which eventually numbered approximately 3,500 #FrenchResistance fighters who, thanks to her, were instrumental in impeding the German rush to the Normandy coast after D-Day.
