Red Army candidate snipers train with their bayonets fixed. The logic of this configuration is rather obscure since a fixed bayonet changes the rifle’s balance and does not contribute to accuracy.Apparently, Soviet drill instructors wanted snipers to be ready for close combat as well, a scenario that should have been low on the priorities list given the top requirement for a sniper to remain concealed and at a significant distance from the enemy.
