William H. Pitsenbarger was a USAF Pararescueman awarded the Medal of Honor posthumously in 2000. He was killed in action against the Viet Cong on April 11, 1966 after he elected to stay with a group of Army soldiers surrounded by the enemy instead of flying away in the rescue helicopter.
