U.S. Lieutenant Alonzo Cushing commanded Battery A, 4th U.S. Artillery during the Civil War. While commanding his guns, on Cemetery Ridge at Gettysburg, he would be wounded twice. He would be held up so he continue commanding during Pickett’s Charge. Finally he would be shot through the head – dying instantly. He is due to receive the Medal of Honor for his courageous actions at Gettysburg.
