“Dr. Herta Oberheuser performed experiments on prisoners of the Ravensbrck concentration camp. Working under Karl Gebhardt, she removed limbs from children, deliberately inflicted wounds on her victims and then rubbed foreign objects, like rusty nails and sawdust into the wounds in order to simulate battlefield injuries. She escaped the gallows, practiced medicine until 1956, and lost her license when a Ravensbrck survivor recognized her. She died in 1978.”
