Milroy’s disease is a lymphatic disease that causes swelling (lymphedema) in the lower legs and feet. Lymphedema is usually present at birth, or it can develop during infancy. It develops on both sides and symptoms will likely worsen overtime. Other common symptoms include upslanting toenails, built-up fluid in the scrotum in males, cellulitis, and prominent leg veins. Most people with Milroy’s disease also have an affected parent, but in some cases, it’s caused by a genetic mutation.
