SS-Obergruppenfhrer Sepp Dietrich, commanding Leibstandarte SS Adolf Hitler, discusses with Greek staff officers surrender terms in Greece. The Greeks resisted the German invasion despite the overwhelming odds against them. Hitler, in an unusual sign of respect, ordered that no Greek soldier would be taken POW and that Greek officers could retain their sidearms.This initial gesture was then followed by one of the most brutal occupations in history.
