Maria Tallchief, first Prima Ballerina in America. Born on the Osage Indian Reservation, she started piano & ballet at age 3 & by 12 studying under the great Madame Nijinska. Married to George Balanchine & Henry Paschen. Performed with the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo & New York City Ballet. Started the Chicago City Ballet in 1981 with her sister Marjorie, also an acclaimed ballerina. Received the Kennedy Center Honors in 1996.
