Spanish volunteer of the Blue Division during the winter 1941-42 near Moscow. The Blue Division (Spanish: Divisin Azul) was officially designated as Divisin Espaola de Voluntarios by the Spanish Army and 250.Infanterie-Division in the German Army. Under political pressure, Spanish dictator Franco withdrew the division back to Spain in 1943, but many Spaniards joined the German army and the Waffen SS to continue fighting.The Spanish volunteer units were collectively known as the Blue Legion.
