Squadron Leader Marmaduke Thomas St John “Pat” Pattle (left) Officer Commanding No. 33 Squadron RAF and the Squadron Adjutant Flight Lieutenant George Rumsey standing by a Hawker Hurricane at Larissa Thessaly Greece. While most of Pattle’s victories were claimed while flying Hurricanes at least 15 were downed in Gladiators. In total he is credited with at least 40 enemy aircraft destroyed possibly over 50 what made him the top scoring British Commonwealth and South African Ace.
