“Free to Become Citizen” Mrs. Ellen Knauff, German-born G.I. ‘war bride” who was detained on Ellis Island because of suspicion of spying for the Communists, rides the ferry to Manhattan after three years of waiting to be cleared of the charge. Attorney General J. Howard McGrath ordered her release Nov. 2, and she is now free to become an American citizen. Her husband is now working for U.S. forces as a civilian in Germany.
