Joseph Stalin – “A single death is a tragedy; a million deaths is a statistic.”

Winston Churchill shares a joke with Marshal Stalin (with the help of Pavlov, Stalin’s interpreter, just visible on the left) in the conference room at Livadia Palace during the Yalta Conference, 1945. Churchill is wearing one of his many uniforms, this time one of the army. Both men were avid smokers — Churchill, cigars, Stalin, cigarettes — and didn’t stop during the conference sessions.
